The afterglow emission from a stratified jet in GRB 170817A

چکیده

The afterglow of GRB 170817A has been detected for more than three years, but the origin multi-band light curves remains under debate. A classical top-hat jet model is faced with difficulties in producing a shallow rise as observed $(F_{\nu} \propto T^{0.8})$. Here we reconsider stratified ejecta energy profile $E(>\Gamma \beta)=E_0(\Gamma \beta)^{-k}$ burst, where $\Gamma$ and $\beta$ are Lorentz factor speed ejecta, respectively. $k$ power-law slope profile. We consider collimated into jets. Two kinds evolutions investigated, including lateral-spreading non-lateral-spreading jet. fit curves, X-ray data at one thousand days post-burst, find that both models spreading non-spreading jets can well, angular size source apparent velocity flux centroid beyond observation limits, while meets limits. Some best-fit parameters model, such number density circumburst medium $\sim10^{-2}$ cm$^{-3}$ total kinetic $E \sim 4.8\times 10^{51}$ erg, also appear plausible. $k 7.1$. Our results suggest may arise from lateral not significant.

The polarisation of afterglow emission reveals GRB jet structure

We numerically compute light and polarization curves of γ-ray burst afterglows for various configurations of the jet structure and for different dynamical evolutions. We consider a standard homogeneous jet and a structured jet with power-law wings. We show that the lightcurves from these two configurations are very similar to each other, and therefore only very high quality data could allow us ...

Polarimetric constraints on the optical afterglow emission from GRB 990123

Polarization of the optical emission from GRB 990123 was measured on 24.17 January 1999 universal time with the Nordic Optical Telescope. An upper limit of 2.3% on the linear polarization was found. Accurate polarization measurements provide important clues to the blast wave geometry and magnetic field structure of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs). The lack of detectable polarization for GRB 990123 indi...

Swift observations of the prompt X - ray emission and afterglow from GRB 050126 & GRB 050219 A

We report on the temporal and spectral characteristics of the early X-ray emission from the Gamma Ray Bursts GRB050126 and GRB050219A as observed by Swift. The X-ray light-curves of these 2 bursts both show remarkably steep early decays (F(t) ∝ t−3), breaking to flatter slopes on timescales of a few hundred seconds. For GRB050126 the burst shows no evidence of spectral evolution in the 20-150 k...

Simulations of Grb Jets in a Stratified External Medium: Dynamics, Afterglow Lightcurves, Jet Breaks and Radio Calorimetry

The dynamics of gamma-ray burst (GRB) jets during the afterglow phase is most reliably and accurately modeled using hydrodynamic simulations. All published simulations so far, however, have considered only a uniform external medium, while a stratified external medium is expected around long duration GRB progenitors. Here we present simulations of the dynamics of GRB jets and the resulting after...

The Radio Afterglow From GRB 980519: A Test of the Jet and Circumstellar Models

We present multi-frequency radio observations from the afterglow of GRB980519 beginning 7.2 hours after the gamma-ray burst and ending 63 days later. The fast decline in the optical and X-ray light curves for this burst has been interpreted either as afterglow emission originating from a collimated outflow – a jet – or the result of a blast wave propagating into a medium whose density is shaped...
